Volunteering at the Habitat ReStore

Helping out at the Habitat ReStoreThe Habitat ReStore couldn't exist without the help of volunteers. Please consider giving a little of your time to help this worthy project. Your efforts will help Habitat for Humanity make a difference in the lives of Dane County residents!

Wanted: Crew Leader
The Warehouse Manager will work with and lead volunteers in a physically demanding capacity involving the processing of donations, stocking products, and operating a forklift and box truck.  Qualified candidates must be able to lift up to 70 pounds on a regular basis, possess a valid drivers’ license and be able to tolerate exposure to extremes in weather (heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.).  Previous forklift experience / certification a plus. This is a part-time position, consisting of approximately 30 hours per week.  This individual is eligible for pro-rated benefits must be available to work Wednesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  Call the Habitat ReStore for more information.

General Volunteer Opportunities

We have an ongoing need for volunteers for regular weekly shifts Wednesday through Saturday,
(9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.), in the following areas:

Warehouse

  • Prepare, stock, and display donated materials
  • Pricing
  • Keep Habitat ReStore clean
  • Assist in loading purchases
  • Work with Sales and with Pickup as needed

Sales and Cashier

  • Greet customers
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Respond to customer questions
  • Assist customers in locating and loading materials
  • Coordinate with Warehouse to keep shelves stocked
  • Operate cash register

Pickup

  • Collect donations
  • Quality control responsibility
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload donations
  • Maintain loading area
  • Maintain vehicles (preventive)

Deconstruction Opportunities

Deconstruction volunteers are scheduled on an as-needed basis. Weekly commitment is appreciated but not required. Deconstruction Volunteers:

  • Remove reusable materials including wood flooring, cabinets, doors, etc.
  • Load and unload truck
